Large parts of housing market not recovered from crisis

Amsterdam - In the majority of municipalities, the housing market has not yet recovered from the crisis. The prices of owner-occupied houses in the river area, among others, are more than 20% below the 2008 level.

This is according to detailed data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The figures confirm a dichotomy in the housing market: in the big cities and on Ameland, for example, house prices are now above the record level of 2008, in much less desirable regions by a long way.

Those who bought a house there at the top of the market will now be faced with a residual debt when they sell: the house is under water.

Homeowners in Mill and Sint Hubert are the worst off: their houses are still 29% less valuable than in 2008. On Ameland, houses are already 20% more expensive than then.
